Taking the Fight to a New Height
Climb 4 SMA

What happens when a CEO and avid mountain climber has an employee whose infant son is diagnosed with a terminal disease?  A disease that is the #1 genetic killer of infants under the age of 2.  A disease so horrific and heartbreaking.  A disease known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy or SMA. What you get is a passion and drive to do something!  A desire to create awareness and raise much needed funds for very promising research – research that could unlock a CURE!

Join us as we embark on this remarkable journey.  Learn more about Jadon – the inspiration for all of this.  Get a glimpse into what it means to have a child with SMA.  Find out why Jim Baker, who founded Climb 4 SMA, is physically, mentally and emotionally preparing to climb Mount Aconcagua, a 22,840 foot mountain in South America.  Partner with us and spread the word.  I guarantee your life will be forever changed.  Come, be a part of the amazing ride as we:

Help Us Find a Treatment / Cure for SMA

We are extremely honored to partner with the
Gwendolyn Strong Foundation!!

Gwendolyn Strong Foundation (GSF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to ending SMA.  Founded by Bill and Victoria Strong, proud parents of Gwendolyn (age 2, SMA Type I), they have witnessed first hand the degenerative cruelty of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).  It has become their personal and passionate mission to further awareness of SMA and fund research solely focused on curing this cruel disease.  As participants in their recent "$200K for SMA" Campaign, 100% of the net proceeds from Climb 4 SMA will be directed to ground breaking gene therapy research that has the potential to treat SMA forever.

Climb4SMA was formed in late 2010, 1 year after Jadon "The BUG" Burks' SMA Type 1 diagnosis.  It was a proud partnership with The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation and Jadon's parents.  Since that time Jadon's Hope Foundation has been formed and approved as a 501(c)3 public charity.  The GSF and JHF continue to be strong partners in the fight against SMA.

The Gene Therapy program that Climb4SMA donated it's money to is currently in Human Clinical Trial.  This is fantastic news.  One step closer to a cure.

Also in that time frame, The BUG has continued to beat the odds.  He will turn 6 years old in June of 2015 and will have lived 3 times the typical life expectancy of a child with SMA type 1.  While he continues to beat the odds the odds continue to worsen...BUT Hey, he is up for the fight.  Jadon is currently a Kindergartener at Rolling Ridge Elementary in Olathe Kansas.  He enjoys his friends at school all year and he is included on a baseball team in the summer.  Life is good.

A lot has been happening in the fight against SMA.  Be sure to check out JadonsHope.org

The thought of using climbing to spread awareness for SMA still holds a place in the heart of Jadon's Hope Foundation despite not having a climb since the Summer of 2011.  If you have a climb coming up that you would like to use to support the fight against SMA we would love to talk to you.  You can contact us at JadonsHope@sbcglobal.net

MT. Rainier JUNE 22nd 2011
Jim Baker gets another summit for Climb 4 SMA
Jim took a team of 5 climbers to the top of Mt. Rainier
Jim attempted to summit Rainier (14,411') last Summer as a "warm up" for Mt. Aconcagua (22,840') but was not able to complete the climb due to weather conditions.
Jim now has his summit of Rainier!

The team consisted of himself and the following climbers:

Tucker Trotter - Jim's partner at Dimensional Innovations

Justin Wood - Jim's VP of Business Development at Dimensional Innovations

Garrett Ochs - Jim's son-in-law

Bill Spillar - Our good friend with JE Dunn Construction

These four climbers were not climbers before June 18th 2011, they were inspired by Jim's dedication to mountain climbing and fighting SMA.  This was the first "serious" climb for any of them and they were able to come back with a successful summit.

Once they step on Mt. Rainier they became climbers.  As soon as they raised awareness and research money for SMA they became heroes.

Please join them as they:
